About Us

The concept of Malindi Lilly came about while my niece and I were on holidays, on a sunny beach in Malindi, Kenya. The specifics were elusive, but the concept involved making hand crafted goods with care and love, and bringing elements of beauty into our daily lives and routines. It remained a dream for a few years, one we would wistfully revisit, until my sister showed me how to make a batch of hand made cold process soap. And, as they say, the rest is history! 

There is a deep feeling of satisfaction in making something tangible from scratch. And the possibilities are endless with soap - ranging from the simpler, more therapeutic ones, to the fun and colourful. So many different techniques, designs, and ingredients to try! 

The strong family connection remains - my husband quietly provided me with the tools and resources I needed to up my game, and has always seen this as larger than just a hobby. My very creative and enthusiastic father, who usually lives overseas, ended up being here with us during lockdown, and the soap making bug has bitten him hard as well. He brings a delicate sense of design and colour to the soaps he makes, and was the impetus behind this online shop, while my husband actually made it happen.
